Blurb Confinia

Confinia et horizontes is a publication series aimed at disseminating the results of major prehistoric (Neolithic and Bronze Age) projects of the Romano-Germanic Commission of the German Archaeological Institute. The title of the new series deliberately combines Latin and Greek terms: in referring to border regions and boundary lines, it calls to mind that any marginal, liminal zone is characterised by different groups that establish contacts through exchange and trade, transfer ideas, knowledge and practices, and thus open new perspectives and horizons. The individual volumes will be joint publications with our cooperating partner institutions. The volumes will include publications of fieldwork, environmental and non-invasive landscape research, as well as geo- and bioarchaeology. The ultimate goal of Confinia et horizontes is to achieve interdisciplinarity, interlinking all kinds of research data in order to contribute to a differentiated construction of various dimensions of past societies.

Confinia et horizontes ist eine Publikationsreihe mit dem Ziel, die Ergebnisse wichtiger Forschungsprojekte der Römisch-Germanischen Kommission des Deutschen Archäologischen Instituts zur Vorgeschichte (Neolithikum und Bronzezeit) zugänglich zu machen. Der Titel dieser neuen Reihe verbindet ein lateinisches und ein griechisches Wort – und dies ganz gezielt: Mit dem Bezug auf Grenzräume und Grenzlinien erinnert er daran, dass jede marginale, liminale Region durch verschiedene Gruppen geprägt ist, die Kontakte durch Austausch und Handel etablieren, die Ideen, Wissen und Praktiken transferieren und so neue Perspektiven und Horizonte erschließen. Die einzelnen Bände sind gemeinsame Publikationen zusammen mit unseren jeweiligen kooperierenden Projektpartnern. Die Bände versammeln Berichte aus Feldforschungen, Umwelt- und nicht-invasiven Landschaftsuntersuchungen, Geo- und Bioarchäologie. Interdisziplinarität zu erreichen ist oberstes Ziel der Confinia et horizontes; zu diesem Zweck verknüpfen die Bände alle Arten von Forschungsdaten und tragen so zu einer differenzierten Konstruktion unterschiedlicher Dimensionen vergangener Gesellschaften bei.
